|Activity / Description of the Trip:||Enjoy a varied and exciting local paddle around historic Abingdon. The route is dependent on weather and water conditions but is likely to include the following:
River Thames, River Ock, Mill Stream, Swift Ditch.
This is mostly a flat water paddle but has some interesting features such as water slides, portages, moving water at Abingdon Weir and the more confined, tree lined Swift Ditch. Possible wet feet!
There will hopefully be an opportunity for introduction to moving water downstream of the weir.Members Only
|Craft:||Open canoe (tandem) and kayak are most suitable craft. Other craft such as solo open canoe and sit on top can be paddled but could affected be by weather and water conditions.|
|Enviroment:||Mostly flat water with some moving water.|
|Type of Paddle:||Easy to Moderate difficulty paddling depending on weather and water.|
|Pre-requisites :||2 star or equivalent experience. Ability to paddle for five hours with occasional breaks in all weather. Able to control craft in narrow places e.g. Swift Ditch. Be prepared to portage boat and/or wade in shallow water.|

|Equipment needed:||Suitable craft – tandem canoe or kayak ideally. Solo open canoe welcome if the paddler is competent and experienced.
Appropriate clothing for winter paddling – layers, waterproofs, gloves/ponies etc
Additional warm layers
Change of clothes
Packed lunch, snacks, hot drink, other drinks/water
British Canoeing membership card which acts as your boat licence (we are paddling near to Abingdon Lock and may even paddle through it)
Coins for public toilets if needed.
