Thames Paddle – Ferry Lane to Pangbourne

|Activity / Description of the Trip:||A delightful downstream paddle on the Thames passing through the historic county border towns of Streatley and Goring (once in opposing kingdoms). This is a guided trip but there is opportunity for some coaching on the way if needed.
This is a members trip open to those who have booked.
|Craft:||All craft should be suitable but weather conditions can affect solo opens and SUPs in particular.|
|Type of Paddle:||Varies from easy upwards depending on water and weather particularly wind.|
|Pre-requisites :||1 star or equivalent experience. Be able to paddle for three hours with occasional short breaks. Distance 12 km|
|Who is leading the activities? :||Claire Hardwick|
|Additional Leaders or coaches :||Claire Hardwick Coach level 4 and Ian Flanders Coach level 4|
|Maximum number of participants:||24|
|Minimum number in group:||3|
|Plan B:||Rearranged paddle on Thames depending on weather particularly wind direction. Extreme weather e.g. Heavy snow/high winds may mean relocation to Pangbourne or could force cancellation.|
|Meeting Time :||9:00 or 9:45 (see below)|
|Meeting Location:||Pangbourne (9am) to load up or Ferry Lane if participant already has own boat (9:45)|
|Finish Time :||Expect to finish paddle at 1400. Vehicle shuttle then needs to be done.|
|Transport details:||Drivers can park at get on (details to follow). The vehicle shuttle will take place after the paddle so that non-drivers can stay at the centre and keep warm or go home
Help with transporting centre boats to the get on will be welcome. Ian and Claire have offered to transport some kayaks in their van. Please contact Claire if you can offer a lift and/or transport any boats.

Appropriate clothing for a winter paddle – layers, waterproofs, hat, gloves/pogies etc
Additional warm layers
Change of clothes, towel etc
Packed lunch, snacks, hot drink, other drink/water
British Canoeing membership card if paddling your own boat as this is your boat licence and will be required as we are on the Thames and also passing through three locks. (If you are using a centre boat your Adventure Dolphin membership will provide a licence for the boat you are using).
