Evening canoe courses

"Working towards" ...Star Awards

Adventure Dolphin (Pangbourne) Charity offer members and temporary members a number different water based evening courses in canoeing and kayaking aimed at "working towards" the achievement of nationally recognized British Canoeing Star Award qualifications. Click Here to visit our diagram of awards showing you how you can progress.

Details of each specific award can be found by Clicking Here (takes you to the British Canoeing website).

The evening courses are typically run over a 6-7 week period and cover the basic One Star Award, intermediate Two Star Award and flat water aspects of the Three Star Award. Opportunities to progress onto Four Star are also available.

A diagram showing the progression through the One, Two and Three Star Awards can be found by Clicking Here together with details of how these link together should you be interested in becoming a Coach Level 1 & 2 or completing a Four Star Leadership Award.

"Working Towards" Evening Courses and Assessments

Please note that these courses are described as "Working Towards" type courses as the progress made will be dependent upon the individual and whether or not they have had sufficient time to practice their newly taught skills and / or complete the required prerequisite trips etc. required for the assessment.

Attending just the 6-7 week course is no guarantee that you will be ready for, or will pass, the assessment.

Opportunities are however, available to members to paddle on a Sunday morning and Tuesday evenings should you need any additional help. We will help you achieve your ambitions and will encourage you to take part in our day trips and mini expeditions.

One Star ...kayak & open canoe

Whilst the One Star Award can be taken in any craft, Adventure Dolphin offer, and recommend, two One Star level Award courses to help you prepare for the Two Star Award as this assessment requires that the paddler should be capable of paddling more than one craft. Typically, we would recommend doing a One Star Award course in kayak and open canoe before taking the Two Star Award courses.
