Intro to moving water – Lower, Lower Dart

|Activity / Description of the Trip:||Join us for a led trip on the Lower, Lower Dart from Buckfastleigh to Totnes. Experience paddling on a beautiful, scenic Devon river. Considered to be a grade 1 to 2 river depending on water level there are sections with small rapids which maintain interest but also other sections of mellow grade 1 paddling.
There are some weirs to be passed but these can be portaged.

|Environment:||Rural – grade 1 to 2 moving water. Weirs.|
|Type of Paddle:||Some experience needed. 13km paddle|
|Pre-requisites :||Two star or equivalent eg AD intermediate course. Plus some touring experience eg trips or regular Sunday paddling.must be able to paddle 3 – 4 hours with breaks.|

Participant numbers can increase if more river leaders available. However maximum is likely to be 16.
All leaders are updated with British Canoeing and Adventure Dolphin in terms of coaching, leading and white water rescue, and first aid.

Other alternatives are possibly Guildford Wey or Thames somewhere.

|Transport details:||Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.
Please note that it is normally expected that participants make their own way to and from the trip start and finish. For trips away from Pangbourne our trips usually start at the river or at an agreed meeting point en route. If you have difficulties arranging your own transport please contact the trip leader to see if a lift can be arranged.
However, we cannot guarantee that lifts are available.
It is expected that anyone receiving a lift will contribute to transport costs.
If anyone can offer a lift please contact the trip leader.
Please also note that for safeguarding reasons it is AD policy to have more than two people in a vehicle if someone is under 18 (unless a relative).

AD Medical and Consent form should be completed and handed to trip leader at the meeting point.
Suitable canoe or kayak. Needs to be fitted with buoyancy bags or blocks. If hiring a boat please discuss suitability with trip leader.
Helmets to be worn.
Clothing suitable for Spring/winter paddling conditions – this includes suitable footwear. Gloves, pogies (not ponies!) as necessary.
Spare clothing, food, drinks should be carried.
Personal medication to be carried and the leader informed. (Note – carrying a laminated list of medication and personal details is useful)
Throwline if you have one.
Leaders to carry usual safety equipment.
