|Activity / Description of the Trip:||River trip / canoe trail
• River Medway is a beautiful meandering river that starts in the heart of historic Tonbridge. It flows through West and East Sussex and into Kent before reaching the Thames estuary some 120 km downstream. Paddling along the river you will see a wide variety of riverside plants and wild life including the orange and blue flash of the kingfisher and possibly even an otter. The trail passes through woods and meadows and is a very pleasant yet exciting trip with the odd canoe slide thrown in!
• This trip starts / meet at the river (not the Centre). Transport and boat hire to be sorted by the participant (see below).

Led trip through mainly scenic open country .

|Transport details:||‘Lower Castle Field’ car park, (far end by river) to drop-off boats and get changed ready for shuttle. Tonbridge Juddians Rugby Club, The Slade, TN91HR is nearby. Apparently toilets in nearby sports centre.
• Shuttle to Yalding, Hampstead Lane, ME18 6HG (on B2162) parking along road near to the Anchor pub, Twyford Bridge. Takes approx. 40 minutes.
|Potential Cost :||Travel to venue (approx 90 miles 1hr 30mins), donations to drivers if car sharing. Boat / equipment hire £5 (contact the Leader (Colin)|
|Equipment needed:||Paddling gear and appropriate clothing for weather conditions.
Always have a waterproof with you.
Helmet for the canoe slides is advisable, especially for kayakers. These are compulsory for any under 18s.
Drinks, packed lunch, snacks.
No medical form no trip. All participants to bring a completed medical consent form. If under 18 years this must be signed by a parent / guardian. These forms will be either returned to you after the trip or destroyed by the Leader. If there are any special needs please advise the leader well inadvance of the trip so that this can be considered.River licenses for the Medway (availability of BCU licenses tbc) …let the Leader know if you are a BCU member.
