River Wye Moving Water Paddle

Activity / Description of the Trip We hope to paddle the upper Wye probably one of the stretches between Builth Wells and Glasbury. The precise section will depend upon water levels and will be decided the week before.
You will need to have sufficient fitness to handle both the activity and possibly the cold for up to six hours.
Craft Open Canoe OR WW Kayak
Enviroment Grade 2 (with a few short sections of grade 3)
Type of Paddle Inetermediate white water paddling
Pre-requisites Some “three star” skills on flat water and some white water paddling experience is required.

Plan B If levels are low, we are likely to be able to use a stretch of river between Glasbury to Hay-on Wye.
If the river is flooding or considered too high for the group, there will not be any alternative trip for the main group. Some paddlers with moderate to advanced water experience, will be invited to paddle. (This is at the discretion of the trip leaders).
Please note that a few paddlers plan to be on the river on Saturday 16th. We are unable to arrange accommodation for club paddlers. However, if you wish to join us on Saturday, please can you discuss this with Claire. There are B&Bs in the area and some bunkhouses.
Meeting Time 9.3
Meeting Location Near the Bridge End Inn, Boughrood, (LD3 0YB. Turn off A470 onto B4350. You can park on the left in a primary school car park or just a little further along the road on the bridge.

Transport details Participants are responsible for making their own transport arrangements.
Please contact Claire if you need assistance or think that you can share transport with someone else.
We hope to be able to leave a vehicle at the get off, by transferring a few people and boats to other vehicles before proceeding up to the get on. The shuttle does take about 30 minutes.
Potential Cost Car Park fees (bring some change).
Equipment needed Boats must have additional added buoyancy (airbags or blocks).
If you need to hire from the club, you must check that the boat has suitable buoyancy bags.
Please contact trip leader if you need assistance with collecting or transportation of equipment.
Paddles, buoyancy aids – as above
Helmets to be worn.
Suitable clothing for the likely weather conditions. Spare clothing, food, drinks should be carried.
Personal medication to be carried and the trip leader informed.
Adventure Dolphin Medical and Consent form should be completed. If participant is under 18 then parental permission must be given and the form supplied to the trip leader.
Leaders to carry usual safety equipment.
