Activity / Description of the Trip: River Paddle – led with some coaching
Craft: Kayak and Canoe
Enviroment: Shallow but fast flowing grade two river. Fairly continuous interest. No place for day dreamers.
Type of Paddle: For kayakers aiming for white water award and canoes aiming for the canoe Award (equivalent to current three star) BUT with some previous experience of grade two water.
Pre-requisites : two to three star level with some previous experience of grade two water.

Minimum number in group: 4
Plan B: This will be decided upon the week before the paddle, with a view to water levels and wind conditions. Possibly another moving water trip. Worse case scenario, Oxford backwaters or no trip!!
Meeting Time : 09.45
Meeting Location: Car park on lane down to Tarr Steps. Grid Ref SS 868 321. Post Code TA22 2PY BUT be wary to check a map. You must approach via the B3223 on the east side of the river, driving up from Dulverton. vehicles cannot usually cross the ford at Tarr Steps.
Finish Time : Probably around 4pm
Finish Location: Dulverton
Transport details: Participants are responsible for making their own transport arrangements. Please contact Claire if you need assistance or think that you can share transport with someone else. We can unload boats at a turning circle by the river, but will need to change in the car park 200m up the lane and then walk down. There is a toilet block in the car park.
Potential Cost : Canoes can to be hired from AD at £5 per day. Shared transport costs. car parking. There is very likely to be time to have a cream tea in Dulverton afterwards.

Hire of boats can be arranged through the trip leader and payment can be made with the link at the bottom.

Equipment needed: AD membership is needed. Boat licence or British Canoeing membership card.
Please discuss which canoe / kayak you intend to hire with trip leader, if you are not sure. . Canoes must have buoyancy bags or blocks fitted. Kayaks must have air bags fitted.
Helmets must be worn. Throwline is you have one.
Clothing to be worn suitable for the likely weather conditions. Spare clothing, food, drinks should be carried. Personal medication to be carried and the trip leader informed.
Adventure Dolphin Medical and Consent form should be completed and handed to trip leader at the venue. If participant is under 18 then parental permission must be given and the form supplied to the trip leader.
Leaders to carry usual safety equipment.
