Adventure Dolphin offers a number of different water based evening courses in canoeing and kayaking helping you to work towards the nationally recognised British Canoeing Star Award qualifications.

Detailed information regarding each of these awards can be found by visiting the British Canoeing website . Our courses run over a six to seven week period and cover the beginners, an introduction course working towards a 1 Star Award, intermediate courses working towards the 2 Star Award, and gateway course developing aspects of the 3 Star Awards which include touring in any craft, open canoe, white water, kayak and sea kayak, with further opportunities available to progress onto 4 Star.

Please note: A prerequisite for all courses is that participants must be water confident, and ideally should be able to swim (this is desirable but not essential) at introduction and intermediate levels.

Evening courses and assessments

Courses are described as “Working towards” as progress is dependent upon the individual and whether they have had sufficient time to practice for the assessment.
As a participant you will:

  • Be taught by an experienced, qualified coach
  • Have the use of the Dolphin Centre’s facilities during your sessions (use of changing rooms and showers)
  • Have the use of centre equipment e.g. boats and essential items such as buoyancy aid
  •  Be granted “Temporary Membership” for five weeks on completion of your course, enabling you to develop and practice your new skills. This entitles you to participate in day trips, Sunday morning and Tuesday evening paddling clubs. (If you do not wish to become a member after the five weeks period but want to attend sessions, you will be charged as a visitor thereafter for a maximum of five visits.)
